Connie Phillips, MSW
Chief Executive Officer/President
Connie began her tenure with Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest in February 2015 as CEO and President. Connie has spent her career as a nonprofit leader in Arizona, working in the fields of mental health and domestic violence. Her office is in the Phoenix location, but she travels all over the state.
“I have long been familiar with Lutheran Social Services as a voice for those who have no voice and a champion for social justice. At this critical time in our state, our work becomes even more important to those who depend upon us.”

Karen Bamford, MM
Chief Program Officer
Karen joined the Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest team in 2008. As the Chief Program Officer, Karen provides the leadership, management, and vision for the operations of multiple site programs and services in Arizona. An Arizona native, Karen holds a B.A. in Communication from the University of Arizona and Master of Management from the University of Phoenix. Karen is actively involved in public health initiatives and community engagement. Karen lives in Tucson with her husband, daughter, and furry friends.

Christine Kobasic, MBA
Chief Financial Officer
Christine joined Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest in March of 2018 as the Chief Financial Officer. Christine said that working at LSS-SW gives her an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others in a world that needs more compassion.
“I’ve always had this yearning in my soul to serve those that can’t find their way, help “them” find their way. In a world that needs more compassion, be that one who makes a difference.”

Lisa Bell
Chief Development and Strategy Officer
Lisa brings more than two decades of executive leadership experience to Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest, guided by a deep and abiding commitment to faith, service, and community transformation.
Most recently, she served as Regional Executive for a national appliance company, leading a $30 million three-state region with a focus on responsible growth, people-centered leadership, and long-term sustainability. Lisa’s expertise in business development and national strategic alliances has consistently created opportunities that strengthen organizations and expand their capacity to serve.
Service has been the cornerstone of Lisa’s life and leadership. She has devoted significant time and talent to nonprofit and faith-based organizations, including the Gregorian University Foundation, Diocese of Phoenix, the American Heart Association, Ballet Arizona, the Arizona Costume Institute at the Phoenix Art Museum and the DCCC. Through fundraising, advocacy, and board service, Lisa has consistently answered the call to uplift vulnerable neighbors and advance the common good.
A native of Hampton, Virginia, Lisa is an honors graduate of Northern Arizona University. She and her husband, Howard H. Bell, reside in Phoenix and remain deeply committed to serving their community and supporting the arts.
