"I was a stranger and you welcomed me." (Matthew 25:35)
On January 27, President Trump signed an executive order to severely limit refugee resettlement. The resettlement program was started by faith communities in the United States. As people of faith, our call is to welcome the stranger and care for God's most vulnerable people - the widow, the orphan, and the refugee. Please stand with us by becoming a Refugee Advocate today.

Here’s a sample of what to say: “I am a constituent from [CITY, STATE], and I urge you to welcome refugees and support the U.S. refugee resettlement program. Resettlement is a core American legacy that extends hospitality and offers a chance for refugees to rebuild their lives in safety and dignity. My community welcomes refugees and I urge you to reflect the best of our nation by supporting refugee resettlement in the United States.”
You can also share a personal story about the importance of refugees to you, your faith, your community, your business, etc. Let them know the specific ways that refugees benefit and are welcomed into your community, and why refugee protection is so important to you.
You can also tweet your policy makers: “.@SENATOR/REPRESENTATIVE, my community stands #WithRefugees! Show that #AmericaWelcomes by supporting U.S. refugee resettlement! #RefugeesWelcome”
Faith Leaders - Sign a public letter of support
Host a discussion group
A recent episode of This American Life documents what happened when the President’s executive order went into effect temporarily banning travel from seven countries, and the way it was implemented. A major policy change thrown into the world like a fastball with no warning. It’s hard not to ask: “What just happened? What was that all about?”
You can listen to the episode for free online here. Share it with your friends and host a discussion group to have a conversation about what you learned.
Host an interfaith vigil
Hosting interfaith vigils provides the opportunity for faith leaders to express how receiving refugees is part of all faith traditions reflecting on the deep scriptural, spiritual roots of our work to support refugees and immigrants. It also creates an opportunity to show how faith communities are gathering around Muslim partners who are being singled out and targeted in this administration intends to stop resettlement of predominantly Muslim countries such as Syria.
Donating Household Items
We appreciate your outpouring of support during this challenging time. While we focus on the immediate impact of these announcements on our operations, we may be unable to respond to your requests to volunteer and donate household items. This is largely due to the sudden halt in arrivals. Your voice as an advocate is our biggest need at this time. Thank you.
