Who We Are and Why We Serve

Karen Bamford, MM, joined the Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest team in 2008. As the Chief Program Officer Karen provides direction and leadership for programs and services in 10 Arizona Counties. Karen lives in Tucson and travels the state.  Karen is actively involved in public health initiatives and community engagement.

Dominique Dancause, MBA, joined Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest in 2010 as the Chief Financial Officer and added the Senior Vice President of Human Resources position in January 2012. She works out of the Phoenix office and resides in the North Phoenix area. 

“I started working in nonprofit organizations over 18 years ago to give back to the communities in which I live and work. My travels to the various Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest offices allow me to see the impact of our good work every day in the eyes of those we serve.”

Rev. Deborah Hutterer, B.A. & M.Div., serves as Chief Development Officer. She has lived in Phoenix and been with Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest since 2013. 

“I love sharing stories of how God’s love is expressed through Lutheran Social Services programs and ministry partners. I get to invite people into partnership for this critical and inspiring work that changes lives.”

Connie Phillips, MSW, began her tenure with Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest in February 2015 as CEO and President. Connie has spent her career as a nonprofit leader in Arizona, working in the fields of mental health and domestic violence. Her office is in the Phoenix location but she travels all over the state.

“I have long been familiar with Lutheran Social Services as a voice for those who have no voice and a champion for social justice. At this critical time in our state, our work becomes even more important to those who depend upon us.”
