Refugee first friend

Location: Phoenix
Details: Flexible schedule - volunteer will schedule their own time with their mentee, meeting at least once per week. Volunteers are needed to welcome newly arriving refugees to their new home in America. Introduce them to the places you love in your city! 6 month minimum commitment required for this role.

Educational Tutor

Location: Flexible
Details: Flexible schedule. Tutors are primarily needed for English, but could be for various subjects. Tutors will assist with refugees in their home, local libraries, or at the office.

Pre-k readiness

Location: Phoenix
Details: Any Tues - Thurs from 10am to 1pm, help watch the children of a refugee adult so they can attend classes taught at our Refugee Office, such as English, Cultural Orientation, sewing, or computers.

DONATION SORTING

Location: Phoenix
Details: Any time during business hours. Volunteer may assist with sorting donations and taking an inventory of current donations.

Sewing Instructor

Location: Phoenix
Details: Any Tues - Thurs from 10am to 1pm. Teach basic to intermediate sewing techniques to refugee women, using a sewing machine.

computer INSTRUCTOR

Location: Phoenix
Details: Fridays 9am-1pm. Teach refugee adults basic computer and internet skills.

Reception & Welcome

Location: Phoenix
Details: Flexible schedule. Volunteers needed to assist asylum seekers at host churches throughout the valley with meals, shelter set up and break down, booking travel and more.  Spanish not required, but helpful. 

Children’s Summer program volunteer

Location: Phoenix
Details: Monday- Thursday 11am-3pm at Valencia Newcomer School. Volunteer will supervise activities and assist teachers in the classroom. This volunteer position will include 16-20 hours per week from July 8, 2019 to July 25, 2019.

Tucson

community guide/mentor

Location: Tucson
Details: Flexible schedule - volunteer will schedule their own time with their new refugee friend, meeting at least three times per month. Volunteers are needed to welcome newly arriving refugees to their new home in America. Introduce your new friend to places in their new community. Volunteers can practice/tutor English, visit the library, learn how to use public transportation, and more with their mentee.

after school Tutor

Location: Tucson
Details: Tuesdays and Thursdays, between 3:30-7:30pm. Tutors volunteer for at least a two hour shift once per week for a minimum of one semester. Tutors are primarily needed for math and English, to support middle school and high school youth who came to the United States as refugees.

host a baby shower

Location: Tucson
Details: Flexible, one-time project. Gather a group of volunteers to host a baby shower for an expectant mother having her first baby in the United States.

Employment support

Location: Tucson
Details: Wednesdays from 10am-2pm. Volunteer will work with refugees and asylees during open office hours to help complete online job applications, prepare a resume, practice interview skills, and more. Volunteer should be comfortable using a computer and working with people who may have limited English proficiency.

Apartment set up

Location: Tucson
Details: Flexible schedule, any day during business hours (Mon-Fri from 9am to 5pm). Volunteer(s) will assist LSS-SW staff in setting up an apartment for a refugee prior to arrival. This may involve carrying large furniture upstairs.

Immigration office support

Location: Any Location
Details: Flexible schedule, any day during business hours (Mon-Fri from 9am to 5pm). Volunteer will provide clerical assistance to immigration staff, assist with applications, completing documentation, and may be asked to assist with immigration appointments.
