How do I become a volunteer?

You can browse our current openings without creating an account. To get full details about current openings and apply, you will create an online volunteer application using an application called "My Volunteer Page."  Shortly after completing your application, you will be contacted by an LSS-SW staff person or volunteer who will walk you through the next steps.

What if I am not sure which opening to apply for?

You can submit an online application without selecting a current role. An LSS-SW staff person or volunteer will contact you to help find the right match.

Do you have any group volunteer opportunities?

Group volunteer opportunities will vary by location and time of year. We do not always have the available resources to host large volunteer groups. Many community groups and houses of worship (including ELCA God's Work. Our Hands. teams) host drives or action teams at their congregations. You can find out more about hosting a drive or action team here.

What types of background screenings are required and what is the cost?

The type and cost of background clearance will vary based upon your position. Click here for an overview of volunteer background clearances.
