Refugee Focus will host its first Women's Tea and Fashion Show on Saturday, April 25 from 10 a.m. to noon to support our Women's Empowerment Program. Tickets are just $10 each and include tea and light refreshments. Tickets are on sale through www.refugeefocus.org beginning April 1.
Women from all over the world will model 25 outfits, accessories and jewelry created by refugees from the Valley. All will be available for purchase at the event. Our own Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest President and CEO Connie Phillips also will be among the models.
The Women's Empowerment Program helpsrefugee women overcome past difficulties through education and skill-building opportunities that lead to a positive self-image and the ability to reach personal and professional goals.
Funds given to this program help provide case management for the women, including computer classes, field trips, women's health and nutrition classes. The program also offers skills development and training for child care providers, sewing, jewelry making, and encourages micro-enterprise businesses, and assistance for women who want to open their own business.
Donations made the day of the event will go directly to support the program.
Proceeds from the sales of clothing will go to each artisan.
